Samnangseong History and Culture Festival

Samnangseong Fortress surrounding Jeondeungsa Temple is said to have been built by the three sons of Dangun to defend against foreign invasions. After Goryeo moved its capital to Ganghwado to avoid the Mongol invasion, it was also the place where, at the Samnangseong temporary palace, they burned with the will to resist the Mongols and held the Great Buddha Summit Assembly for 120 days. It is also the place where the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty were kept for 250 years, and it is the site of victory in the Byeongin Yangyo, where the French army was repelled. In addition, it was also the place where, in the late Joseon period, they resisted the Japanese Empire and won a battle by righteous armies for one week. For 5,000 years it has constantly interacted with our history and is a site of national self-esteem that embraces our history. To feel pride in our proud history and widely promote it, the Samnangseong History and Culture Festival has been held every year starting on the first Saturday of October, and this year marks its 26th edition.
