The 16th Gwangju Biennale

The 16th Gwangju Biennale, “You Must Change Your Life,” which opens on September 5, 2026, takes its title from the last verse of a poem published in 1908 by Rainer Maria Rilke. The moment the speaker in the poem encounters a broken ancient statue, he experiences a change in his way of looking at the world. As our perspectives and positions change, we realize that we can no longer continue living as before. I must change.
