우리나라의 가장 정남 쪽에 자리 잡아 황칠나무, 녹나무, 후박나무, 종려 등 1년 내내 푸르름을 감상할 수 있는 난대수종을 보유한 아름다운 수목원으로써 국내에서 오래된 황칠나무를 가장 많이 보유하고 있으며 남부수종의 특성과 마을, 농경지와 어울려 농촌생활모습을 함께 관찰할 수 있는 호남의 대표하는 수목원이다.
