Ganggyeong National Heritage Night

Ganggyeong National Heritage Night aims to break away from the existing framework focused on preservation, actively utilize historical and cultural resources, and spread their popular value. By establishing a network that connects the modern historical resources scattered throughout the Ganggyeong area into one, it encourages visitors to experience all of Ganggyeong as a single vast historical and cultural space. The event unfolds under eight themes—Night View (夜景), Night Path (夜路), Night History (夜史), Night Painting (夜畫), Night Design (夜設), Night Food (夜食), Night Market (夜市), and Night Stay (夜宿)—with a total of 30 detailed programs. First, Night View and Night Path present the night scenery of the Ganggyeong Modern History and Culture Street through landscape lighting and media art, greatly enhancing physical and psychological accessibility to historical and cultural resources. Visitors naturally immerse themselves in historical spaces as they stroll along the night paths. Night History, Night Painting, and Night Design reinterpret the historical narratives and the value of modern heritage that Ganggyeong possesses through performances, exhibitions, and experiences with a contemporary sensibility. By conveying the value of national heritage, which can otherwise feel difficult, through intuitive and engaging content, it secures historical popularity and widely spreads that value. Lastly, Night Food, Night Market, and Night Stay are operated based on collaboration with local businesses and residents. By linking Ganggyeong's specialty products, foods, and local shops, it increases visitors' length of stay and completes a virtuous cycle in which the networking of scattered historical resources leads to the revitalization of the local economy. As a result, the 8 Nights (夜) and 30 programs are expected to breathe contemporary vitality into Ganggyeong's national heritage that had remained in the past and to serve as a key driving force in providing visitors with a differentiated nighttime cultural heritage experience.
