Gunwi Sangmaedaek (Gunwi Namcheon Historic House)

Namcheon Old House in Hanbam Village, Gunwi-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do is a place where you can choose between staying in an old house or staying at a hanok pension. Midnight Village is a village that was formed since the Silla Dynasty and has a thousand-year history. The sight of hundreds of years old houses sticking out from behind the old stone walls that wind along the village is worthy of being called a ‘beautiful traditional village.’ Namcheon Old House is the largest house in the village. It is estimated to have been built around 1836 (the 2nd year of King Heonjong's reign), and the introduction of the utilitarian concept of the late Joseon Dynasty into architecture can be seen here and there. It originally had a unique layout, but the middle gate and lower quarters were demolished, and now the ‘ㄷ’ shaped main house, straight sarangchae, and shrine remain.

It is an old house with such high preservation value that it was selected as Gyeongsangbuk-do Folk Cultural Heritage No. 164. You can experience lodging in an old house in the sarangchae (sarangchae), across room, mungan room, and under room. Sarangchae ‘Ssangbaekdang’ consists of a two-room ondol room and a main floor. The newly built Hanok pension has a bathroom and kitchen inside, as well as a two-room large room and a one-room small room. You can also experience Korean traditional music, tea ceremonies, farming, and gourmet experiences such as Korean food and native chicken dishes. In particular, there are many things to see in Midnight Village. Be sure to take a look at the ‘Daeyuli Daecheong’, which was destroyed during the Japanese invasion of Korea and is now restored after being repaired, the ‘Daeyuli Stone Buddha Statue’ which is a Silla Buddha statue, and the ‘Daeyuli Pine Forest’ which is a beautiful pine forest.
