Gangneung Danoje Transmission Education Center

The Danoje Training Center was established to support the transmission activities of the Gangneung Danoje Festival, a National Intangible Cultural Heritage designated as a UNESCO 'Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity' on November 25, 2005, and to provide the general public with year-round opportunities to experience the festival, operate traditional culture classes, and serve as a civic cultural space. The site area is 6,408㎡ and the total floor area is 2,163㎡; the main building has 1 basement floor and 2 above-ground floors, and the performance hall has 1 basement floor and 2 above-ground floors with 453 seats. The main building houses the Gangneung Danoje promotional exhibition room, training classrooms, the Gangneung Danoje Committee, and the Gangneung Danoje Preservation Society, while the performance hall can host planned performances and rental performances.
Educational programs include traditional culture classes and the Gangneung Danoje history tour. The traditional culture classes offer 8 courses for Gangneung citizens: samulnori, janggu, piri, taepyeongso, gwanno mask drama, modumbuk, Korean dance, Gangneung nongak, and folk songs. The Gangneung Danoje history tour is a field experience education program that explores the cultural heritage sites of the Gangneung Danoje Festival and discovers the cultural meaning of the festival through on-site commentary.
